The role of beta2 microglobulin levels in monitoring chronic hepatitis B.

چکیده
Beta2 microglobulin is one of the domains of the histocompatibility class I human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antigen. In hepatitis infection the presentation of the viral antigen on the hepatocyte in the presence of class I HLA antigens plays a significant role in the elimination of the virus. The aim of the study was to estimate the serum beta2 microglobulin levels in cases of chronic hepatitis B infection. Serum beta2 microglobulin levels were assessed in 65 cases with chronic hepatitis B infection including 29 pediatric and 36 adult patients as the study group and in 30 cases as seronegative control group. Beta2 microglobulin level was found significantly higher in chronic active Hepatitis B virus (HBV) patients compared to the asymptomatic HBV carriers and also in the chronic active HBV patients compared to control group. We are of the opinion that beta2 microglobulin concentration is an indicator for monitoring chronic active HBV infections at the asymptomatic hepatitis B virus carrier patients, thus would lead to early initiation of Interferon (IFN) treatment and to monitor the effectiveness of the therapy.

Relationship between hepatitis B DNA Viral load in the liver and it\'s histology in patient with chronic hepatitis B
Background: Serial measurement of hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA levels in the liver and its relation with liver damage and serum HBV DNA levels are guide to begin and/or end a treatment course. This study evaluated the relationship between liver hepatitis B DNA viral load with liver histology in patients with chronic hepatitis B (HBV). Methods: Thirty patients with chronic anti-Hbe positive ...
متن کاملA panel of molecular markers in hepatitis C virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma.
BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma is triggered by many factors including infection with hepatitis C virus. The molecular basis, however, of the development of HCV-related HCC remains unknown. OBJECTIVE This work was designated to compare the circulating levels of some molecular markers between HCV-infected and HCV-free HCC patients. METHODS We investigated 77 of HCC patients admitted to t...
متن کاملCurrent progress in the development of therapeutic vaccines for chronic hepatitis B virus infection
Chronic hepatitis B is still a major public health issue despite the successful prophylactic vaccination attempts. Chronicity of hepatitis B virus(HBV) is mainly due to its ability to debilitate host's immune system. Therefore, major measures have been taken to stop this process and help patients with chronic hepatitis B infection recover from their illness. While satisfactory results have been...
متن کاملEvaluation of the need for treatment on 72 subjects with anti-HBe positive chronic hepatitis B
Background: Viral load and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels may not be the key points for making a decision in the treatment of anti-HBe positive chronic hepatitis B. The purpose of this study was to assess the histological evaluation of liver to find the need for treatment on 72 patients with anti-HBe positive chronic hepatitis B. Methods: The liver biopsy slides of the 72 patients (56 s...
متن کاملDecreased Expression Levels of S100A12 and RAGE May Be Associated with Chronic HBV Infection
Background and Aims: Engagement of the receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) and its ligand “S100A12 protein” induce a cascade of reactions that eventually might lead to develop an inflammatory response dependent on NF-κB. Although involvement of S100A12 and RAGE in some autoimmune disease have proved, in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) infection functions of the prote...
